T.U.L.I.P. and the Bible review Î eBook or Kindle ePUB Thousands of readers have been wonderfully and powerfully influenced by Dave Hunt's authoritative 590 page hardcover treatise on Calvinism What Love Is This but many have asked for a concise analysis of reformed theology After years of popular demand The Berean Call is pleased to offer this resource designed to help believers navigate the confusing and conflicting views surrounding the Five Points of Calvinism commonly known by the acronym TULIP Presented in an attractive easy to read 5x7 paperback and trimmed down to just 190 page. TULIP is one of the best booklets available that looks at the inconsistencies of Calvinism Dave Hunt s logic is beautifully condensed from his larger book What Love is This into this smaller one that s easier to read He does a good job of showing that the 5 points of Calvinism are interdependent and that one cannot reasonably be less than a five point Calvinist without multiplying the contradictions that Calvinism already faces Does God love every person in the world not only like we could love them but than we could Calvin says no Hunt says yes God is love Did God will Adam to sin against His will in the garden of Eden Calvin says yes Hunt says no that s an impossible contradictionHunt uotes a multitude of Calvinist writers some are 5 points Calvinists some are not to establish what they believe He also distinguishes between what Arminius believed and what most Arminians believe today This is where I believe he falls into error especially in the chapter on the Perseverance of the Saints Hunt believes in eternal security which I cannot reconcile with the many calls to God s people to repentance and steadfastness in the Bible Even as Hunt cannot believe in unconditional election because God repeatedly called the unbelieving in the Bible so I cannot believe in eternal security without obedience after conversion due to the many calls for faithfulness and steadfastness God cannot accept any sin in heaven and if a Christan sins and refuses to give in to God and wash his soul how can his soul be taken to the presence of God after his death to be in His sight eternally So Hunt s eternal security though it came up only briefly causes me to rate this booklet with 4 stars instead of 5 Hunt views the Anabaptists favorably since he believes in a believer s baptism after a person responsibly chooses to put his faith in Jesus Christ So while he agrees with the Anabaptists in that area he does hold an unbalanced view of faith and works saying that they are opposites I as an Anabaptist believe that faith entails than mere belief but assumes confidence and obedience as well thus faith and works are inseparable Of course works alone will get us nowhere if God would not have offered us salvation all the works in the world would save no one Through Christ alone we become sons but let s live in obedience to God so we though unprofitable servants yet please HimThe book has been a great help to me and I recommend it to everyone
